Building momentum in a positive direction is key to leading a fulfilled life, and it’s the stumbling blocks on the road to this momentum that can make positive change seem more daunting and confronting than it actually is.

Our starting point (where we are right now) is a summation of all the decisions we have made up until now – how we have responded to defeat and challenges, how we have celebrated our triumphs, and ultimately, what thoughts we have allowed to exist within us. The thoughts we allowed to exist within us a fundamental to shifting our momentum into a positive direction. There is a famous quote from Mahatma Gandhi:

Your beliefs become your thoughts,

your thoughts become your words,

your words become your actions,

your actions become your habits,

your habits become your values,

your values become your destiny.

Mahatma Gandhi

This quote puts perfectly, the connection that exists between what we believe and the momentum that we build. Ultimately, when we choose to believe in something greater than ourselves, like God’s plan, strength and shield, or our trust that all things eventually come full circle, we set ourselves up for patient and productive thought-making.

What we continue to think daily is eventually reflected in what we speak, not only verbally to others, but to our self talk. Our self talk plays a significant role in our we perceive ourselves, so if we believe that God is constantly strengthening and shielding us, we build ourselves up at the same time and it allows us to move towards our potential with a little less fear.

When we start to speak words of encouragement to ourselves this motivates us and is reflected through our actions – actions that propel us towards our goals. If we are consistent in our actions these actions start to form our positive momentum in the shape of habits. These habits don’t form overnight, but form only with consistent application over time, hence why it is so important to define your beliefs early on in the process, as they will drive you and help you to persevere.

What we choose to do with our time is indicative of what we value

When our habits start to become our values, what this really means is, whatever we continue to do on a daily basis reflects what we choose to do with our time – and what we choose to do with our time is indicative of what we value. We spend more time on the things we value and less on those tasks that we don’t. If we value our health we will be spending more time on meal-planning and exercising, if we do not, we will be spending our time on something else like watching television shows or sleeping in.

When we strive for positive values over time, this consequently forms the direction of our life, and if you like to use the word, destiny. God gives us a free will to choose our own destiny, but this choice is best accompanied by consistent prayer, trust and faith that God is working in our life in ways we can barely gein to imagine.

Building positive momentum is keys to living a fulfilled life.
