There comes plenty of times in life when others ask for your help or you can clearly see they need help. We don’t have to say yes every single time, that’s not the point. But, sometimes we avoid these situations because they may make us feel uncomfortable or they may challenge us. If you physically don’t have the time to help out, that’s fine – but if you do have the time and you still choose to back away, why? This is a big opportunity.

Any situation that challenges us or that we are afraid of confronting means there is potential for growth within it.

Any situation that challenges us or that we are afraid of confronting means there is potential for growth within it. Embrace it. I honestly promise you this – whilst you’re the one providing help to another person the rewards you will reap from it (whilst not expected) will reach far beyond what you imagined. You might perform a task for someone that you hadn’t done before, only to realise you are skilled at it. It may end up becoming one of your passions – and if you hadn’t gotten up that day with a desire to support that friend that asked for a deed, you would have never known.

It’s actually crazy – our thoughts, our talents and skills, and our passions, they come out in the most unexpected ways. So, just focus on those core human values of integrity, respect and openness to change. I guarantee that over time the growth that these values expel will lead you to a far better realisation of yourself than you’ve ever known.

So, help that friend write his resume, you might make business out of it later! or give that friend advice about dealing with a break-up, maybe it might inspire you to become a counsellor or psychologist.

Whatever it is that the world asks of you, see it as an opportunity.

In the words of Steven Spielberg, “when you have a dream, it doesn’t  often come at you screaming in your face, sometimes it almost whispers.”
