“We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us” (Philippians 4:13).
That’s a quote that gets me on the right path each day. When I have doubts, I look to God for inspiration and I pray that he guides me – not to immediate success, but guides me to a better version of myself that can grow beyond my present situation. God is where my faith lies, but it may not necessarily be where everyone’s faith lies. Whatever or whoever you look up to for inspiration, that is where you should place your faith.
Sometimes faith need not be placed into a deity, but into an ideology that represents and justifies your way of thinking. For example, the idea that all things will come full circle. Steve Jobs once said;
“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even when it leads you off the well worn path; and that will make all the difference.”
So what we learn is that faith involves an immeasurable amount of trust, faith is essentially trust in something without knowing, driven by an internal belief that the direction we are travelling is the best one for us, to the best of our knowledge anyway.
Having faith is quite scary sometimes, but in my opinion it is the only way of breaking free from anxiety about the future and minimising panic that is brought on by a rush for immediate results. Faith teaches us that success will come in it’s own time if we just give it the chance to prosper by being disciplined and trusting in the processes and plans we have made.

So when I look to God, I place trust in him because it makes me a more grateful person and it opens my perspectives. It helps me to see the good in the world around me and instills in me a sense of gratitude for the things I have now, not those which I lack, that’s the beauty of it. There’s a thought I had a while ago and it goes something like this, “Look to see the good in others at every chance and for every reason, because when you see it, I believe this is God’s presence.”
So use your faith as you wish, but remember it is probably the most powerful tool for catalysing change you will ever have and you should use it wisely. Faith will allow you to be disciplined and to chip away at the things that often seem too hard. Your faith should form part of your vision, but also lead you towards your vision. It can be the ‘why’ to your vision and it can also be the method how you reach your vision.
Faith is important in overcoming helplessness.
Always,
