Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple Inc. said in one of his most famous Harvard University addresses, “If you lived each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.” For the last 33 years of his life, Steve would look in the mirror each day and ask himself, “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I’m about to do today?” If the answer was “no” for too many days in a row, he claimed, he knew he needed to make a change.

He said that;

“Almost everything, all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment of failure, these things just fall away in the face of death – leaving only what is truly important.”

Therefore, it is a fatal human flaw to not pursue our ambitions. If we take a step back and observe life, and think for a while, we will likely grow to understand that anything bad that has ever happened to us or that we once believed was holding us back doesn’t truly matter anymore.

We have a life to live and we have been blessed with new day after new day, new opportunity after new opportunity. To sit back and just let that pass by is the biggest mistake we can ever make. Time is valuable so we must allocate time to the important things like writing that book you have always wanted to or taking your family on that once-in-a-lifetime holiday.

To pursue our true potential as humans takes effort, but I believe it is the most rewarding journey we can ever take. Right now where we are sitting reading this article, whether that be at home, at our desk or on the train, we are envisioning our capabilities based on the knowledge we have now. What we often forget to realise is that if we begin a journey based on our passions and commit to it with all our heart, we will learn new things along the way. Our horizons will broaden, our perspectives will grow and that dream we had in the beginning will transform into something greater than we could have ever imagined if we never started in the first place.

To pursue our true potential as humans takes effort, but I believe it is the most rewarding journey we can ever take.

Please don’t be bogged down by the limitations that restrict your dreams because these are only a result of where you are now. You have to be creative and believe beyond these restrictions for a while. Make time for the important things and invest your energies into them. You will see changes in yourself, but most importantly these changes will reflect in the way you see the world around you. You will become a better contributor to this world and someone who is valued by many. Keep giving of yourself and share your knowledge and never forget to work on your weaknesses.

There is no reason not to follow your ambitions, so make time for the important things.
